Insanity Program Detailed Results – Third Week (Day 21)
Today is my official “off day,” rounding out week 3 of Insanity.
Day 21
Weight: 182.4
BMI: 26.17 (Overweight)
Thoughts: I started counting my calories this week using the MyFitnessPal app, hoping to get rid of some actual weight this week. It worked, but not to a hugely satisfying degree – while I got rid of the extra weight that I gained at first, I’m pretty much back to the weight I was at the very beginning. I am still crossing my fingers and hoping that my body fat percentage will have gone down some by the middle of the program when I measure it.
In any case, I feel fitter, even if I don’t look it. My energy and endurance have continued to improve in daily life. This is actually a relief, because I took the workout a little easier than I should have a couple days this week and I was worried about losing some of the cardiovascular gains I have made so far. That said, I am not sure it would ever be accurate to say you can take an Insanity workout “easy,” even if you feel sluggish like I did – I was still pouring sweat at the end.
I believe I was feeling sluggish a couple days this week, and maybe not pushing as hard as I should have been, for two main reasons. One, as I mentioned before, is that I started counting calories. Without the option of constantly eating whenever I feel tired or snack-y, I have lost the constant stream of energy that I was used to having. This perfectly illustrates why, in the past, my diet and exercise attempts have very rarely occurred at the same time – I usually do one without the other because I tend to do both ineffectively if I try them both at the same time. I am a little concerned about that happening again this time, but I will keep trying for now.
I started by setting my calorie limit at 1500 calories on MyFitnessPal. I am hesitant to change that yet because I did lose a little bit of weight (probably water that I had been retaining, though) in the past week. I am planning on giving it another week of 1500 calories before I re-evaluate it. For now, I will just plod onward and try to do a better job working out this week than I did last week.
My second excuse is that my boyfriend has started a new job schedule of 11pm to 7am shifts. Consequently, I am staying up later and then sleeping in later in the morning because he is also asleep, and I don’t want to set my usual alarm for fear of waking him up again after a hard night of work. I personally find that when I sleep in later, regardless of the time I went to bed (unless I am really sleep-deprived) I feel horrible the next day. I get nauseous, headachey, grumpy, and my energy is nonexistent. I think I am just going to have to start setting my alarm so I wake up at a reasonable time again and hoping that he will be okay with it and just roll over and go back to sleep.
