Insanity Program Detailed Results – Second Week (Day 14)
Yesterday was day 14, the end of my second week doing Insanity. I missed one day last week, so I did the missed workout the following day and pushed my week’s schedule back one day. I’m skipping this week’s off day and starting week three later today to avoid throwing off my whole schedule.
Here are this week’s stats.
Day 14
Weight: 184.0
BMI: 26.4 (Overweight)
Thoughts: Week two went a little more smoothly than week one, aside from my one missed day. I found myself completing the workouts more easily and with more energy put into keeping my form correct. I still have to take plenty of mini-breaks, but I think they may be getting shorter and farther apart. I also feel dramatically better in my normal everyday activities. I’m not as sore this week as I had been starting out, and my energy levels are way up. I bolted up three flights of stairs with ease to get to my early morning class that I always arrive late for. In fact, I noticed at the top how remarkably easy it was for me to run up those stairs now, because it was such a huge contrast to my usual panting and plodding. If you are interested in improving your athletic performance and endurance, Insanity is AWESOME for that. I am used to being out of breath after I pull my pants on, and now I’m running up staircases after just two weeks of the program.
Sadly, despite my much improved cardiovascular fitness, I’m still fat. I thought that, aside from the first week where I blew my diet on my birthday, that I had done a decent job of watching my food intake. For some reason, however, the weight is not coming off. I have a few theories on that:
1. I haven’t given the program enough time to work its magic. It’s only week two! I don’t know why I am so impatient about results this time around.
2. I am still eating too many calories / eating too much crap. Extremely possible considering my carb addiction and binge eating issues.
3. I actually am losing fat but my weight is staying the same because of additional water / muscle weight. I am waiting until halfway through the whole program before I take my body fat percentage again. It’s only an estimate, so I wanted to wait long enough to measure it so that any difference is less likely to be a coincidence.
One thing I am starting to notice is a slight change in my midsection. Everything is still covered in a layer of fat so I can’t see any muscle definition but, whereas my whole gut used to be one big blob, now I can tell where the fat ends and the muscles will be eventually. It’s an interesting change and I know it means I am making progress, but it is frustrating to still see all that fat there. Obviously it is nowhere near reasonable for me to expect that, after two weeks, the years’ worth buildup of fat would be melted away, but still… I want my instant gratification, please!
UPDATED to add second fit test results:
It really is remarkable how much stronger my cardiovascular system is in just two weeks.
Switch kicks: 119, up from 104 on the first fit test
Power Jacks: 59, up from 56
Power Knees: 102, up from 88
Power Jumps: Last time I cheated and did not bend my knees at the top for the first eleven. This week I kept my form all the way through, but I did less total than last week. I did 26 with proper form, instead of last week’s 34 total and 11 with proper form.
Globe Jumps: 44 total (11 rotations of 4) up from 32 (8 rotations)
Suicide Jumps: 16, up from 11
Pushup Jacks: 30, up from 23
Low Plank Oblique: 82 total (41 per side), up from 64 (32 per side)
